Job Description

The Senior Commercial Portfolio Manager is an integral member of a “deal team” who proactively manages an existing varied portfolio of complex commercial credit relationships by monitoring the performance of the customers’ operations and financial covenant results, identifying credit risk trends at the customer and portfolio level, and notifying management of any changes. As part of the deal team, the Senior Commercial Portfolio Manager partners with the Relationship Manager to grow and develop the portfolio with high quality, profitable credit relationships.

To achieve these two goals, the Senior Commercial Portfolio Manager’s job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead the analysis, underwriting, origination, and servicing of loans in a high-production, growing commercial portfolio
  • Collaborate with and lead commercial credit analysts to prepare and present credit approval packages to senior management and credit partners
  • Independently prioritize credit requests, renewals and reviews
  • Provide initial risk rating, recommend appropriate credit structure, and provide guidance based on bank policies
  • Participate in the documentation process including terms/structure negotiations with customer and outside attorney(s), if necessary
  • Coordinate closing and booking events with external and internal partners
  • Partner with Relationship Manager(s) to call on current or potential customers; understand customer needs for commercial products and services; develop lending proposals; identify cross-sell opportunities.

Additionally, the Senior Commercial Portfolio Manager is expected to exhibit leadership skills such as:

  • Delegate assignments to commercial credit analysts as appropriate
  • Provide feedback, coaching, and guidance, where appropriate, to enhance others’ skill development
  • Cultivate an inter-departmental network of resources and partners
  • Maintain positive relationships even under difficult or heated circumstances
  • Project a positive image and serve as a role model for other junior members of the team  

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 8+ years of commercial portfolio management experience required
  • Possess sound understanding of current business environment
  • Superior commercial credit knowledge
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Ability to take initiative using strong problem solving skills
  • Goal and production oriented
