West TN, Arkansas and N MS Market Credit Risk Officer

Job Description:

This job function serves as a Credit Risk Officer for the bank to decision loan requests to core Commercial (C&I), Private Client and small Commercial Real Estate clients that are managed in the West Tennessee, North Mississippi and Arkansas markets. . This position evaluates credit requests and decisions loans to existing borrowers and prospective clients; reviews annual analyses and identifies potential credit risks; performs proactive portfolio management through ongoing monitoring. Some travel to call on client/prospects with the line is required.

  • Reviews credit packages, assists in structuring credit requests and decisions requests from existing borrowers and prospective clients; reviews credit memoranda to ensure that the analysis accurately presents pertinent credit risks and appropriate loan grading; provides recommendations to the line teams regarding specific loan requests as well as overall portfolio management. 
  • Ensures all asset quality objectives are met and processes/procedures are in compliance with the company’s policies, practices, and regulatory requirements. Communicates results and any potential issues to both line and credit leadership.
  • Manages existing portfolio relationships within established risk parameters; evaluates existing borrower and prospective credit requests within established performance standards.
  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and training to portfolio managers and analysts for the lending and approval process; assists line management in the evaluation of the line personnel and helps to identify training needs. 
  • Participates in the internal loan review, audit examinations, and forecasting of asset quality indicators to top management. 
  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of First Horizon credit culture.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in content, interpretation and applications of credit policy, and knowledge of appropriate actions to take with regard to applicable laws and regulations.

Job Requirements:

  • Fifteen years or more in commercial banking or related field with demonstrated expertise in structuring commercial loans
  • Underwriting experience is required; previous credit risk manager or credit officer experience preferred
  • Possesses an understanding of the current business environment, demonstrated knowledge of credit policy and analytical abilities
  • Goal and production oriented
  • Excellent relationship building skills; collaborative work style
  • Proficient with applicable computer software
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Good organizational and customer service skills
  • Travel required, primarily in the footprint mentioned above

Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. Location of this position is in Memphis, Tennessee.
