Job Description

This internship is part of the First Tennessee Bank's CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS group.

Position is located in Memphis, TN.

This Internship will provide:
• Knowledge of the company’s First Power culture, vision and mission statements
• A broader perspective on how First Horizon services the community and region as a whole.
• The opportunity to participate in and/or lead the completion of assigned, short-term projects requested by managers
• The opportunity to acquire specific skills that are needed to achieve professional goals and aspirations.
• Hands-on work experience in the field


HOURS:
Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Will average up to 20 hours per week.

First Horizon Communications Intern Objectives:

First Horizon National Corp. offers regional banking, wealth management, and capital market services through our First Horizon family of companies. Our family includes First Tennessee Bank and FTB Advisors locations in and around Tennessee, Capital Bank locations in North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida, and FTN Financial offices in the U.S. The bank was founded in 1864 and has the 14th oldest national bank charter in the country.

Our goal is to expose the First Horizon Communications Intern to the fundamentals of Corporate Communications, First Horizon areas of business and provide hands-on work experience. The intern will be able to develop and improve business skills in communications, project management, and teamwork. Additionally, the intern will interact with professionals in public relations, corporate social responsibility and communications who can provide guidance, feedback, and career development opportunities.

General Intern Responsibilities:

• Draft public relations materials, including press releases, fact sheets, statements, op-eds, internal and online articles, social media posts, speeches and talking points
• Assist with media relations, including pitching, building and maintaining press kits, media lists researching and scheduling interviews if needed
• Compile daily media clips report
• Compile weekly media and social media report
• Complete contest entries
• Assist with planning and executing special events, as needed
• Complete project reports, as needed


Requirements
Role Requirements:

• Current enrollment in a related BS or Master’s degree
• Strong desire to learn along with professional drive
• Solid understanding of different communications and public relations techniques
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office
• Willingness to learn and employ communications software and online applications (e.g. measurement / monitoring / tracking / scheduling tools, and review / approval tools)
• Passion for the communications/PR industry and its best practices
