Storage & Backup Administrator

Position Location:1638 Robert C. Jackson Drive, Maryville, TN
Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM


The Storage Engineer will focus on the storage design, implementation, optimization of existing infrastructure environments and backups. This role spans enterprise hardware, software and operations (scalability, HA, DR, data migration). This position will work closely with the Senior SAN Engineer to provide data storage planning, provisioning, deployment and support with SAN, NAS, and Backup environments.


• Designing, planning, and maintaining a network-wide Commvault Backup Architecture

• Work with infrastructure and application development to analyze system metrics and modify backup parameters for optimization as needed

• Create/update detailed disaster recovery documentation for the backup infrastructure

• Day to day technical support, proactive monitoring and management, evaluation of new and emerging technologies, and maintaining vendor support relationships

• Provides technical support (including participation in a 24x7 on call rotation) for complex production systems and services

• Proactively monitors infrastructure for optimal performance and provides input for capacity planning

• Assist the Senior SAN Engineer for day to day operational support

Requirements Knowledge and Experience

• Prior working experience with Commvault

• Understanding of scalable systems – throughput, latency, cache, and resource analysis

• General knowledge with SAN, NAS, Switch Fabric, and Tape Library

• Demonstrated experience with VMware, Windows, Linux and AIX

• Good troubleshooting, reasoning, and communication skills

• Ability to write clear and concise technical documentation

• Follow Change Control methodologies

• General scripting skills


• 4 year degree or equivalent experience with 2+ years Backup and/or SAN experience for enterprise scale production environment

• Working knowledge of enterprise class storage subsystems and SAN fabric hardware

• Strong understanding of storage tools and security practices

• 2+ years experience with VMware, Windows, Linux and/or AIX
